Today is "fete de la musique" an all day celebration of music in all it's forms in France.
It is celebrated in many countries nowadays but was introduced in France in 1981 by the french cultural minister.
Le xylophone will represent the instruments and music of this day an d also starts with the letter X which was handy...

le mât is actually mainly referring to a mast on a boat but it could also be a beam or a pole.
Since it is the swedish feast of midsummer i Sweden I have drawn a maypole, which the french call a mât as well.

Ok so it's not used enormously today since less people travel by night trains.
